Stu Ungar is considered by many to the very best NL Hold em Poker player ever.
The three time World Poker Champ was born in New York in ‘53 and began wagering poker prior to becomming a teenager.
The young bettor began wagering gin and at the age of ten had won his very first gin rummy tournament, while on holiday with his mother and father. By the age of 14 the small poker genius had turned professional and dropped out of school.
In ‘54 Stu Ungar entered the record books by succeeding ten thousand dollars in a gin rummy tournament without dropping a single hand, a record which still appears in New York these days.
The quick talking superstar has been compared, in poker terms, to sporting superstars such as Michael Jordan and Kobe Bryant. Stu had a true ability for betting poker but despite his achievements in Hold’em poker, he favored wagering gin.
Stu once said that there might a few day be a far better No Limit Holdem gambler than him except he could not see how anyone could ever be a far better gin gambler.
In 1980 Stu was put on the world map as one of the best Texas holdem Poker players in the earth when he was crowned World Poker Champ for the very first time. Extraordinarily it was the very first time he had played in the tournament.
The following year he put aside any thoughts that it had been a fluke, by successfully defending his crown. And in ‘97 Stu set the record by winning his 3rd World poker championship.
Except this poker master also battled with drug abuse and a year right after winning his 3rd title Stu Ungar past away in his hotel room. According to medical professionals, he had died from cardiac arrest which was caused by his lifestyle.
Stu had began with practically nothing but his ability and expertise for the game which made this poker wonderful a millionaire many times over.
