Gus Hansen experienced an amazing year on the WPT where he was the only one to achieve final poker table in 3 of the tournaments. Gus Hansen has been seen on High Stakes Poker on The Game Show Network where he paid $400, 000 to play. You might recall one of the largest pots in big stakes poker history competing against Daniel Negreanu. Hansen raked in a huge pot with 4 of a kind against Negreanu’s full house. Hansen has earned many tv poker appearances and is considered to be one of the best gamblers anywhere in the world. While competing in online poker, another side of Hansen has appeared. Gus often participates in the 200/400 NL maximum buy in of Forty Thousand dollars. Hansen frequently buys in for the min of $16, 000 and plays very poorly. He waits patiently for a good hand and then pushes all in. I believe Hansen is a great poker player but certainly not even close to the familiar players at 200/400no limit. Unless Gus is broke, he has no reason to play at the table with the min buy in.
Playing for the minimum takes most of the ability out of big stack poker. Gus is supposed to be one of the greatest poker players anywhere in the world but he cannot buy in for the full dollar value. I believe tv can skew our view of the real world every now and then. The greatest players anywhere in the world might just be players you have never heard of before. Gus can be seen playing internet poker on Full Tilt. He generally competes in big stakes omaha/8 and texas hold’em. Gus Hansen has proven himself as a tournament player.
