No-Limit Texas Hold’em Poker- Who is Phil Ivey?
Phil Ivey has been branded as the greatest poker contender on the globe by many of the top pros. Phil Ivey was born in Riverside, CA and relocated to NJ before his first birthday. His papa taught Phil penny-ante Five-Card Stud poker. From that point on, he was hooked on poker and wanted to learn every little thing he possibly could about the game. He routinely told his parents that he was going to be a professional poker player. He did not allow the negative comments from others kill his goal of being one of the strongest poker competitors in the world.
He began competing intently after getting a fake ID with the name of Jerome. He sharpened his skills at the casinos in Atlantic City. The initial few years for Phil were a teaching opportunity and coming away with a win wasn’t a common thing at the time. Phil made his mark at the 2000 World Series of Poker where he achieved two final tables and came away with his first World Series of Poker bracelet, in a two dollar, five hundred Pot-Limit Omaha game. At the closing table he defeated quite a few of the better known professionals including but not limited to "Amarillo Slim" Preston, David "Devilfish" Ulliot, and Phil Hellmuth, Jr.
He decided to take his game to the successive level and headed out west to Sin City. He continues to play in "The Big Game" at the Bellagio with the greatest players in the world. Ivey credits his achievements to discipline and an undying love for poker. He states that he’s picking up skills every day and is incredibly humble about his accomplishments. He admits to making mistakes every single session of poker and constantly strives to improve.
Although Phil has won some large tournaments, he favors destroying cash games on a regular basis.
