No-Limit Texas Holdem Poker- Who is Howard Lederer?
Howard Lederer was born into in a family of five where he loved betting on numerous card games at a young age. He found himself getting very competitive in these card games as he was competing against his dad. After finishing secondary school, Howard made a decision to put college on hold for a bit and moved away to New York to compete in some big-time chess. While competing in chess, he was brought in to a poker game going on in the back of the room. Howard’s initial 2 years were difficult as he would play extensive hours and don’t win a majority of the time. He earned some extra money by being an assistant for the poker players. He theorized he possibly could improve his game by balancing his life away from poker. He made an effort to get more sleep and focus even more on the game.
The definite improvement in his abilities began when he began playing at the Mayfair Club in New York City. The Mayfair was a bridge and backgammon club where the the most favorable players would frequently challenge each other. Howard had access into some of the greatest minds in chess. With their assistance, Howard would tweak his strategic thinking techniques. Howard applied these strategic concepts to the game of NL Texas Holdem.
Howard Lederer also helped his sister Annie Duke learn the game of poker. Annie was a great student of the game as she would consistently be asking questions about the right way to make the correct choice. Howard told Annie Duke to head out to Las Vegas and compete in the WSOP competition. She is one of the best women players the poker arena has ever seen. He moved to Sin City in Nineteen Ninety Three and participated in cash games for the following decade. When the WPT gained popularity, he decided to participate in more tournaments.
