Net High Stakes Poker- Gus Hansen
Gus Hansen had a wonderful year on the WPT where he was the only participant to achieve final table in 3 of the events. Gus Hansen has appeared on High Stakes Poker on The Game Show Network where he paid $400, 000 to play. You might recall one of the largest pots in high stakes poker history up against Daniel Negreanu. Gus raked in a large pot with quads against Negreanu’s full house. Gus has made many televised poker appearances and is deemed to be one of the strongest enthusiasts in the world. While wagering on internet poker, another side of Hansen has emerged. He often competes in the 200/400 No Limit maximum buy-in of Forty Thousand dollars. Hansen generally buys in for the minimum of $16, 000 and plays very poorly. He sits there waiting for a decent hand and then goes all-in. I believe Hansen is an amazing poker player but certainly not even close to the familiar players at 200/400NL. Unless Gus is bankrupt, he has little or no reason to play at the table with the minimum buy in.
Playing for the min takes a majority of the expertise out of big stack poker. Hansen is assumed to be one of the best poker players in the world but he cannot buy-in for the total amt.. I believe tv can skew our perception of the real world at times. The best players in the world could be guys you have never heard about. Gus can be seen wagering on net poker on Full Tilt. He normally participates in high stakes omaha eight-or-better and texas holdem. Gus has shown himself as a competition player. Can he back up his abilities in money games?
